Donate to the new West Seattle Parklet
We are writing to you with a hope you will help us build a new parklet in the West Seattle community. What is a parklet you may ask? It’s a park in parking spaces! That’s right, and they’re in Seattle! Parklets convert on-street parking spots into public spaces for all Seattleites to enjoy. They are a cost-effective tool for increasing our city’s public open space, and have added to the vitality of neighborhoods around the world.
San Francisco launched the first parklet program in 2009, and cities around the world have introduced their own programs since. San Francisco itself now boasts more than 80 parklets and adds more every year. As part of Seattle’s Public Space Management Program, the Parklet Program explores permanent parklets in Seattle. Parklets aim to activate streets, create more vibrant neighborhoods, and support economic vitality.
In May 2014, EQ Fitness met with a City of Seattle advisory board and presented an idea for a West Seattle parklet. Just a short week later, we were approved (along with 10 other businesses) for West Seattle’s first fitness parklet. The idea for the parklet (about 34ft by 10ft) is to create a space where people walking, biking, running (or just out enjoying the neighborhood), will stop to exercise or relax. The parklet will feature such outstanding items as: pull up bars, fitness benches, monkey bars, bike stations, and water stations for the dogs. We plan on holding civic events such as talks, meditation seminars and music.
We are now seeking sponsors to help us fund the parklet and have partnered with the Seattle Parks Foundation a 501 ( c ) (3). Our goal is to raise $30,000 by April 1st, 2015. Your involvement will highlight your commitment to the community on a daily basis along busy California Ave. Your generous donation is fully tax deductable through the Parks Foundation. You can donate by visiting our SPF website.
Our sponsors will receive full credit on the park through permanent signage and full media coverage; it’s a big deal!
